As the smog continues to worsen, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the provincial government to extend winter vacations in public and private schools in the city.
According to details, while hearing petitions against the current smog, Justice Shahid Kareem ruled that schools would be closed for an extended period from 2 to 8 January.
It should be noted that all public and private schools and colleges in Punjab, including Lahore, are currently on winter break.
Winter vacations in Lahore schools began on December 24 and were supposed to end on January 31, with the academic year beginning on January 2.
In light of the worsening smog situation in Lahore, the LHC asked the School Education Department (SED) last week to consider extending winter vacations from one week to two weeks.
In the midst of the ongoing smog, the Punjab government declared three weekly holidays for public and private educational institutions in Lahore earlier this month. The three weekly holidays will remain in effect until further notice.
The SED issued a notice stating that all public and private schools in Lahore will be closed on Fridays and Saturdays. The third holiday will be the official Sunday holiday.
