An extended multi-year deal between Samsung Electronics and AMD will provide the high-performance, ultra-low-power Radeon graphics to a wider variety of Samsung Exynos system-on-chips (SoCs). The licencing extension will allow Samsung to introduce mobile devices with console-level graphics quality and optimal battery consumption, providing gamers with a gaming experience that is both immersive and long-lasting.
Samsung’s VP of Application Processor (AP) Development, Seogjun Lee, said, “Along with AMD, Samsung has been reinventing mobile graphics, including our recent partnership that brought ray tracing capability to mobile CPUs for the first time in the industry.” “We will continue to drive continued innovation in the mobile graphics arena, drawing on our technological expertise in building ultra-low-power solutions.”
Earlier this year, David Wang, senior vice president of AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group, announced that Samsung has chosen multiple generations of its “leading high-performance Radeon graphics” to power the next generation of Samsung Exynos SoCs. By continuing to collaborate with Samsung, we are demonstrating our dedication to our technological collaboration and providing mobile users with the greatest possible experiences.
Samsung had already ventures with AMD’s graphics
In 2019, Samsung and AMD announced their intention to work together to licence AMD’s RDNATM graphics architecture, a move that would eventually lead to the joint creation of the Samsung Xclipse, a mobile GPU based on RDNA 2 architecture. When it comes to mobile console-quality gaming, Xclipse was the first GPU to offer hardware-accelerated ray tracing and variable rate shading.
The Exynos 2200 is a high-end mobile processor with a robust AMD RDNA 2-based Samsung Xclipse GPU. The Exynos 2200 provides the best mobile gaming experience, along with improved performance in social media apps and photography, thanks to its state-of-the-art Arm®-based CPU cores and updated neural processing unit (NPU).
