Maj. Gen. (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Chairman of the PTA, met with the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and the Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona. In addition, the Chairman signed a collaboration agreement with the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) and the World Wide Web Foundation to address the digital gender gap in Pakistan.
The Chairman briefed the ITU Director, Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and the Chairman (MCMC) on PTA’s efforts to digitally include girls and women in ICTs through a series of agreements with national and international stakeholders.
During Chairman PTA’s meeting with Chairman (MCMC) Dr. Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, each side discussed the challenges associated with the regulation of their respective international locations Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms.
In addition, Chairman PTA and Executive Director of A4AI, Ms. Sonia Jorge, inked a partnership agreement. PTA will most likely leverage A4AI’s coverage and regulatory best practises and assets to work toward bridging the digital divide in Pakistan as part of this relationship.
PTA and the Alliance for Affordable Internet will run a series of gender-responsive workshops throughout Pakistan to raise awareness about gender mainstreaming in ICTs and improve key stakeholders’ understanding of how to address Pakistan’s digital gender disparity.
This agreement would reinforce PTA’s commitment to ensuring that females are included in Pakistan’s digital transformation process.
