Imran Khan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister and PCB’s patron-in-chief, has approved the construction of a new high-tech cricket stadium in Islamabad. The decision was reached during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Friday meeting with PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in Lahore.
PCB had asked property in Islamabad from the competent authorities to construct a state-of-the-art stadium for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Ramiz had previously said.
As Pakistan was given the hosting rights for the big event, Ramiz stated that one of his main priorities is to build an international grade stadium in the capital city. This will be Pakistan’s first major ICC tournament since the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1996.
The state-of-the-art stadium, according to Ramiz, will be equipped with world-class facilities for visiting teams and will also enhance the fan experience when they travel to the stadium to witness their favourite superstars in action.
According to reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the project and urged Ramiz to use all available resources to build the stadium as rapidly as feasible. The construction of the new stadium is expected to begin in the coming months, with the goal of finishing it in time for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
During the discussion, the arrangements for the forthcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 were also discussed. PSL 7 is set to begin on January 27 in Karachi, with the final taking place on February 27 in Lahore.
