Pakistan startup funding has officially crossed the $4.77 billion mark in total cumulative capital raised, according to the latest data from Tracxn. Pakistan now counts over 22,596 registered startups, of which around 1,000 are funded companies that have together raised $4.77 billion in venture capital and private equity. It is a headline number worth celebrating, but the real story is more nuanced, and understanding it helps founders, investors, and observers see where the ecosystem actually stands in mid-2026.

What the $4.77B Pakistan Startup Funding Figure Really Means

Before reading too much into the milestone, it helps to know what the number includes. Tracxn’s figure covers all funding rounds across every company type, not just pure tech startups raising equity from VCs. Telecom operators ($843 million) and banks ($821 million) are among the top-funded sectors in the dataset. That explains a large chunk of the total. When you strip things back to pure startup equity rounds, the picture is thinner. In 2024, equity funding fell to just $22.5 million across 15 deals, a 70 percent drop year on year, with zero Series B rounds recorded.

The good news is that recovery is well underway. Startups raised approximately $74.2 million in reported funding in 2025, almost double the funds mobilised in 2024. And 2026 looks even more active. Q1 2026 alone tracked $62 million in deals, with 18 new angel investors entering the market.

48 Early-Stage Deals in 2026: Why That Number Matters

A total of 719 investors have participated in 704 funding rounds, with 48 startups securing early-stage funding and 19 raising late-stage funding. The fact that early-stage activity is picking up is the most important signal. Early rounds are where the next wave of growth companies is formed. When seed and pre-seed rounds slow down, the growth-stage pipeline dries up two to three years later. More angel cheques in 2026 means more Series A candidates in 2028.

Pakistan’s startup ecosystem is expected to maintain momentum in 2026 after young businesses changed their approach for fundraising towards hybrid financing models. One of the most notable shifts in 2026 is the rise of hybrid financing, combining debt and equity. This gives cash-generating startups access to growth capital without giving up large equity stakes too early.

Which Sectors Are Drawing the Most Capital

Not all sectors are growing equally. Here is where the money is going right now:

  • Fintech: Fintech accounts for 34 percent of all Q1 2026 deal flow and has dominated every year of the funding cycle, including the contraction years. Haball stands out in B2B fintech, with reported processing above $3 billion and a $52 million hybrid pre-Series A round.
  • Healthtech: MedIQ shows healthtech can still attract serious money, with a reported $6 million Series A. The sector covers care navigation, employer health plans, diagnostics coordination, pharmacy logistics, and clinical administration.
  • Logistics and B2B Commerce: Fintech continues to dominate the innovation landscape, shifting focus from consumer wallets to deep infrastructure that digitises Pakistan’s cash-heavy B2B economy. The ecosystem is moving away from burn-to-win B2C models toward margin-rich B2B software and recurring revenue, and every logistics startup is now also a fintech.
  • Export-facing SaaS: Export-facing software, meaning tools sold to clients in the Gulf, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia, is a growing priority for investors.

The Unicorn Gap: Pakistan’s Biggest Open Question

Despite all the activity, Pakistan still has no unicorn, while 2025 funding reached about $74.2 million. Neighbouring India has minted over 100 unicorns. That gap is not just a vanity metric. A local unicorn creates a flywheel: it produces experienced operators who start new companies, angel investors who reinvest, and proof that big exits are possible from Pakistan.

The real weakness is not startup creation but startup progression: too few local investors, thin follow-on capital, legal and admin friction, limited exits, and no fully local unicorn flywheel yet to reset founder ambition. While seed and early-stage rounds are increasingly available locally, scaling to Series A or B still depends heavily on international investors.

Some companies are getting close. Bazaar Technologies leads with its robust B2B model and over $70 million in funding, with an expansion into financial services. Abhi, with a $90 million valuation, could reach unicorn status with continued growth and a significant Series B round. The next two years will be telling.

Policy Is Starting to Catch Up

The government has made some meaningful moves. The Finance Bill 2026 introduced pass-through tax treatment for venture capital funds, aligning Pakistan with international best practices seen in mature ecosystems like the US and Singapore, so that income and gains flow directly to investors without being taxed at the fund level first. This reduces the cost of running a local VC fund and could unlock more domestic limited partner capital over time.

If you want to understand the broader regulatory framework being built around this, the SECP Venture Capital Bill gives Pakistani startups a formal funding path that complements these tax reforms. These two moves together are the strongest policy signal the ecosystem has seen in years.

Karachi (307), Lahore (202), and Islamabad (154) are the top cities by number of startups hosted, and activity is increasingly spread across all three rather than being concentrated in one hub. That geographic spread is a healthy sign for long-term ecosystem resilience.

What Founders Should Take Away

The $4.77 billion headline in Pakistan startup funding is real, but context matters. Most of it is historical and includes large regulated industries. The active early-stage market in 2026 is smaller, more selective, and more disciplined. Investors are backing strong fundamentals, revenue clarity, disciplined growth, and realistic exits. Founders who build with those principles from day one are the ones getting funded.

The ecosystem has come a long way from the 2024 trough. With 48 early-stage rounds tracked, hybrid financing models gaining ground, and real policy changes in place, the conditions for Pakistan’s first confirmed unicorn are slowly coming together. The milestone is not guaranteed, but it is within reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much has Pakistan raised in total startup funding?

Around 1,000 funded companies in Pakistan have collectively raised $4.77 billion in venture capital and private equity, according to Tracxn data. Note that this includes large regulated sectors like telecom and banking, not just pure tech startups.

Which sectors get the most startup funding in Pakistan?

The top startup sectors in Pakistan include fintech, e-commerce, logistics, travel, healthtech, edtech, and software services. In 2026, fintech and B2B logistics are leading deal flow, with healthtech also attracting meaningful rounds.

Does Pakistan have any unicorn startups?

As of mid-2026, Pakistan has no confirmed homegrown unicorn (a startup valued at $1 billion or more). EMPG Group (Zameen.com) represents Pakistan’s closest connection to a billion-dollar tech company, having achieved unicorn status through its merger with OLX Middle East. Several local companies are in the running, but none has crossed the threshold independently.

What is driving the 2026 early-stage deal increase in Pakistan?

The increase came in line with fundraising through hybrid financing models, a combination of equity and debt, replacing the previous equity-only funding approach. New tax rules for VC funds and growing interest from development finance institutions are also helping more early-stage startups close rounds. For the official investment climate framework, see the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
