LAHORE, Pakistan — Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja criticized the terrible state of Pakistan’s cricket stadiums on Wednesday, stating that work is underway to repair infrastructure.
He told a press conference that he had submitted an application for a piece of land in Islamabad to develop a high-tech cricket stadium. He expressed the hope that the state-of-the-art cricket stadium would be completed for the Champions Trophy in 2025.
“We will ensure an international-level experience is offered for the tournament,” Ramiz said, adding that gaining the rights to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is a huge win for the country.
It may be recalled that the concept to build a stadium in the federal capital originally appeared during the tenure of previous PCB chairman Ehsan Mani, with Prime Minister Imran Khan issuing directions for it.
The stadium will also house a high-performance centre and host a variety of international and local tournaments and matches.
The project was moving along at a rapid speed, according to the director of the PCB’s national high-performance centre, Nadeem Khan, in July of this year.
“The creation of a state-of-the-art international cricket stadium in Islamabad will help the growth of cricket in the country. This stadium will have all the latest state-of-the-art facilities for the sport.
Steady progress is being made on the mega project and the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for it. PCB officials are in constant contact with the officials of the CDA. We are also planning on creating high-performance cricket stadiums in Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Faisalabad,” Nadeem said.
