At the second day of Oppo Inno Day 2021, the company has taken the wraps off its much awaited new generation foldable smartphone, the Oppo Find N. The latter has been reported for a while now, and has finally been unveiled with flagship specifications as you would expect from a premium device. Oppo has focused majorly on its hinge design as well as the crease that falls on a foldable display, taking shots at Samsung to state how its own hinge design has won it certification from TUV Rheinland for the lack of a crease on it.
Oppo Find N: key specifications
The Oppo Find N is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, along with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. There’s also an 8GB RAM variant with 256GB storage. Powering the device is a 4,500mAh battery, with 33W SuperVOOC fast charging standard that is claimed to offer 55 percent power in 30 minutes of charging, and 100 percent in 70 minutes. It also supports 15W AirVOOC wireless charging with compatible Qi chargers, as well as 10W reverse wireless charging to compatible devices.
The device has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on its edge that is integrated into the power button. The foldable smartphone also has a dual-speaker system with Dolby Atmos certification, instead of the possibility of a quad speaker setup — given the tablet-like design. The triple rear camera features a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, along with a 16MP ultra-wide unit and a 13MP telephoto unit. The inside display gets a drill-hole to the left corner for a selfie camera, and there’s a front-facing camera on the outer display as well.
Now, on to the major area of focus at Oppo Inno Day 2021 — display and hinge design. The Oppo Find N features a 5.49-inch outer display with 18:9 aspect ratio, which looks like a compact but standard smartphone display. Inside, the Find N unfolds into a 7.1-inch, E5 display panel with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 8.4:9 aspect ratio. The display offers 1,000Hz touch sampling rate, and Oppo says that because of its display area, the smartphone offers 60 percent higher viewing area than a typical, 6.5-inch smartphone display.
Oppo has also design a custom ‘Flexion’ hinge for the smartphone, which it says can stand at various angles between 50 and 120 degrees. This can allow users to prop up the phone when typing, or using for video calls or stabilised photography. Oppo has also designed custom software for switching between outer and inner displays easily. The latter will recognise gestures to enable splitscreen app viewing and other tasks. Oppo says that the ultra-thin glass on its outer layer of the folding display is 0.03mm thin to improve durability as well as legibility.
The hinge also has 136 components inside, and the smartphone itself is 73mm thick and weighs 270g.
Pricing
The Oppo Find N costs RMB 7,699 (approx. Rs 92,000) for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variants, and RMB 8,999 (approx. Rs 1.07 lakh) for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. Pre-bookings for the smartphone are now open in China, and users can get their hands on it from next week, December 23 onward.
