After Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif reportedly ordered major changes in the setup, Najam Sethi is expected to replace Ramiz Raja as Chairman of the PCB.
Following his election, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the restoration of departmental cricket in the country, which had been suspended by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
PM Shehbaz, on the other hand, has shown faith in Ramiz Raja, assuring him that he will continue to serve in the position.
While the Prime Minister has reportedly ordered the restoration of the PCB 2014 Constitution, under which departmental cricket will be resumed, recent reports also indicate a significant change in the cricketing establishment.
According to reports, PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja is expected to step down, and former Chairman Najam Sethi has a strong chance of returning to the helm of the PCB.
What lends credibility to the reports is the fact that former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi met with PM Shehbaz earlier today in Lahore.
Ramiz Raja was elected as the 36th Chairman of the PCB for a three-year term beginning in 2021. After Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Javed Burki, and Ijaz Butt, Raja is only the fourth ex-Pakistan cricketer to lead the PCB.
Najam Sethi was fired as PCB Chairman after Imran Khan’s PTI took power, and he appointed ex-ICC president Ehsan Mani as the new chairman of the board.
Sethi served as chairman from 2013 to 2014, and again from 2017 to 2018. He is credited with getting PSL started. Sethi was the chairman of the Pakistan Super League before becoming the chairman of the PCB executive committee.
