On Thursday, the Finance Division‘s meeting on the tax-related concerns of the information technology (IT) and telecom sector was presided over by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail.
Syed Amin Ul Haque, the federal minister for information technology and telecommunication, briefed the finance minister on the sector’s contribution to the nation’s economic development and informed him that it is currently dealing with a number of tax-related problems. He asked for the exemption or reduction of various taxes to make it easier for the IT sector to conduct business and to ensure the survival of the telecom sector in Pakistan.
According to Haque, the expansion of IT and telecommunications not only boosts exports but also the GDP as a whole.
The finance minister praised the sector’s contribution to the nation’s overall economic growth and emphasized that the current administration is making every effort to encourage the sector’s growth and improvement of its exports.
Additionally, the Finance Minister offered all assistance feasible to settle problems with various taxes on the IT and telecom sectors for ease of doing business and to encourage both industries’ exports.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the PTA Chairman, the FBR Chairman, and other senior authorities.
