In your comfort zone, there isn’t much room for adventure and excitement. It’s important to try new, sometimes scary, things to spice up your life.
Push your boundaries! It may be difficult to step outside of your comfort zone at first, but facing unfamiliar challenges can make you happier and more fulfilled in the long run.
To assist you, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most effective strategies for breaking out of your comfort zone and injecting more excitement into your life.
- Every day, set small goals for yourself:
Look for small ways to push yourself out of your comfort zone. It will be much easier to handle larger challenges once you’ve made stepping outside of your comfort zone a daily habit.
For example, you could start up a conversation with a stranger at the grocery store, listen to a new genre of music on your drive to work, or try a different flavored coffee in the morning.
- Change your usual routine to spice things up:
Examine your life for areas that feel repetitive. Instead of going to the same coffee shop every morning, try the one across the street. Changing your routine allows you to introduce new experiences into your life.
Perhaps you’ll make friends with the new coffee shop’s barista, or you’ll discover a new favorite coffee drink. Look for any opportunity to step outside your comfort zone and liven up your life. Even minor changes can improve your life. If you usually get vanilla ice cream, try caramel the next time.
- Make every day a learning experience
Change your perspective on your daily life. Consider each day as an opportunity to learn something new.
Keep in mind that this can only happen if you step outside of your comfort zone. You can accomplish this by constantly looking for ways to improve.
For Example: Start reading a book you’ve been meaning to read. To get to work, take a different route. When you explore different aspects of the world, you never know what you’ll discover!
- Choose activities that will push you
Consider a few things that frighten or make you nervous. Make a list of them and put a star next to the one you want to start with. Making a list assists you in developing a strategy for how you want to present yourself.
Coming up with specific ideas, rather than just thinking about it, forces you to put these plans into action.
For Example: “Go skydiving, write a short story, go on a blind date,” could be on your list.
