The National University of Science and Technology (NUST), COMSATS, and National University of Technology (NUTECH) get 80% of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s development funding, according to the Secretary of Science and Technology.
He said this while briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology, which convened in this location on Monday under the chairmanship of Senator Shafiq Tarin.
The committee was informed by the secretary of the ministry of science that NUST projects receive 50% of the ministry’s development budget, while NUTECH and COMSATS programs receive 30% each. He also stated that 13 institutes get the remaining 20% of the ministry’s money. Due to inadequate project planning, these institutions receive a smaller portion of the funding.
Officials from NUTECH told the committee about the university’s accomplishments and mentioned that it was able to independently design a ventilator. Once the ventilator’s clinical testing is finished, mass production will begin. The committee was also informed that additional top-notch medical and industrial goods, such as a 3-D printer and peritoneal dialysis equipment, had also been produced by the university.
Lt. Gen. Moazzam Ijaz, rector of NUTECH, stated that the university is working to construct a cutting-edge water management and research centre. The water management centre at NUTECH will work with the provinces to design and carry out the projects linked to water. In this context, the centre will also provide advisories to the provincial and federal governments.
