Best phones under Rs 50,000 in India can be referred to as affordable flagship smartphones. While flagships do get more attention during launch events and create a buzz on social media, the market captured by smartphones costing over Rs 50,000 is quite less compared to the sub Rs 50,000 phones. Also, given the fact that flagship phones in 2021 cost between Rs 60,000 to over a lakh, naturally, these phones become an alternative.
Usually, the sub-Rs 50,000 is dominated by OnePlus and that has been the case for the last few years. However, things were different in 2021 as rival brands like iQOO, Realme, Samsung, and Vivo also had phones that gave the OnePlus run for its money. After going through multiple phone options available in the India market between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000, these are the nominees shortlisted by the Indian Gadget Awards jury for the phones under Rs 50,000 in India.

OnePlus 9 5G
The OnePlus 9 is the company’s middle child in the flagship series, sitting right in between the OnePlus 9 Pro and 9R. The OnePlus 9 fixed the most glaring flaw that the past OnePlus phones carried and with the help of Hasselblad, OnePlus did pull that off. The cameras on the OnePlus 9 are good, especially the ultrawide camera results. As always, the performance is top-notch, thanks to the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Backed by a 4,500mAh battery and 65W fast charging, the OnePlus delivers here too. The 120Hz 6.55-inch AMOLED display offers sharp, vibrant details.
iQOO 7 Legend 5G
The iQoo 7 Legend and iQOO 7 are the company’s first set of flagship smartphones for the Indian market launched earlier in 2021. Vivo’s spin-off brand aims to target gamers, but in the process, the phone also serves non-gamers a powerful affordable flagship phone, thanks to its all-around performance. Donning BMW Motorsport’s iconic tri-colour branding on the back, the iQOO 7 Legend can certainly turn heads in the crowd. The phone sports a 120Hz 6.62-inch AMOLED display. Snapdragon 888 powers the device, like most of the phones on the list. The camera is one area where the 7 Legend surprised many led by the Sony IMX 589 snapper. While the software comes with a bunch of bloatware, most of them can be deleted. Lastly, the 4,000mAh backed by 66W fast charging will last a day.
iQOO 7 5G
The younger sibling to the iQOO 7 Legend, the vanilla iQOO 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset. The phone also brings a large 6,000mm vapour chamber 一 one of the best in the segment. While it sports the same 6.62-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, it also gets a dedicated display which increases the dynamic range and frame rate in games. In terms of optics, the iQOO 7 has a 48MP primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP monochrome shooter. It comes with a larger 4,400mAh battery backed by 66W fast charging.
Realme GT Neo 2
Realme’s best affordable flagship phone of the year, the GT Neo 2 brings an excellent 120Hz E4 AMOLED display, good battery, insane fast charging, and consistent performance. Realme is the only phone brand that did an experiment with the design and back panels of the phones in 2021. The Realme GT Neo 2 comes in a bold Neo Green colour option. You get a 6.62-inch 120Hz E4 AMOLED display 一 one of the best displays in the sub Rs 35,000 segment. You also get support for HDR10+ content. The Realme GT Neo 2 is powered by a 7nm Snapdragon 870 processor paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone offers snappy software and an ad-free experience on the Realme UI. There is a 64MP main camera (Samsung GW1) and a 16MP selfie camera onboard. It runs off a 5,000mAh mega battery and also supports 65W fast charging 一 it can last up to 2 days on a single charge.
Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro
The spiritual successor to last year’s Mi 10T Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB internal storage. To the front, the device features a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It sports a 108 MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP macro camera. On the front is a 20MP shooter. The cameras on the Mi 11X are good but fall short compared to the iQOO 7 Legend and OnePlus 9. Lastly, the phone is packed with a 4,520mAh battery unit with a 33W fast charger in the box. Overall, the Mi 11X Pro is a good phone, with a nice and compact design, better service and support, and a better multimedia performance as well.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G
The 5G version of the Galaxy S20 FE was launched in March in India and it brings a lot of improvements over the 5G version, especially in the battery and performance areas. The device is powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset and sports a 6.5-inch super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is also IP68 water-resistance rated. There’s a 12MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS followed by a 12MP ultra-wide shooter and an 8MP telephoto lens with OIS. Selfies are handled by a 32MP snapper. The Galaxy S20 FE 5G packs in a 4,500mAh and supports 25W fast charging support. The design, although it is a matte plastic finish, feels and looks good. Overall, the Galaxy S20 FE was a great alternative for the OnePlus 9 barring in the charging and performance departments.
OnePlus 9R 5G
The most affordable phone in the OnePlus 9 series, the OnePlus 9R is essentially a rebadged OnePlus 8T with some under the hood changes and this is an India exclusive device launched as a gaming-centric phone. In terms of design, the phone is identical to the OnePlus 8T from 2020. It also comes with the same 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 870, which sits right below the Snapdragon 888. As for the cameras, there is a 48MP Sony IMX 586 primary sensor with OIS, a 16MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, 2MP depth, and 16MP selfie camera. The camera isn’t the best in the segment, but not too bad too. It can click good pictures, but nothing extraordinary. The phone is packed with a 4,500mAh battery and a 65W fast charging solution.
Vivo X70 Pro
The younger sibling to the Vivo X70 Pro+, the X70 Pro is Vivo’s affordable flagship smartphone of the year with excellent cameras, 120Hz display, and MediaTek SoC. Realme GT 5G
Realme’s true flagship phone was launched towards the end of 2021 with an aggressive price tag. The phone starts at Rs 37,999, making it one of the cheapest phones with Snapdragon 888. The phone is comfortable to hold in hand thanks to the compact and slim design. It has a great stereo speaker setup too along with a 3.5mm headphone jack 一 which most phones on the list doesn’t. The Realme GT sports a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate that is bright, colourful, and snappy. There is a 64MP main camera with a Sony IMX682 sensor, an 8MP secondary ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie camera. The cameras are one of the most disappointing flagship aspects and it is not exactly what you expect from a flagship camera. The 4,500mAh battery is backed by a 65W fast charging, which can charge from 0 to 100 percent in under 40 minutes.
Motorola Edge 20 Pro
An unusual brand in the segment, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a great device with a few round edges. This is also the brand’s flagship phone after a few years in India (barring Razr foldables and Moto Edge+). The Motorola Edge 20 Pro sports a large 6.7-inch Full HD10-bit OLED display with a 144Hz screen refresh rate. It also has a 576 Hz touch response 一 one of the best we’ve seen on a phone. The camera pack is led by a 108MP main camera, a secondary 16MP ultra-wide and macro vision lens, and an 8MP periscope camera with a 5x telephoto lens and OIS. Selfies are handled by a 32MP punch-hole camera on the front. The phone is backed by a 4,500mAh battery along with 30W fast charging.
