The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced today that star batsman Virat Kohli will miss the final three matches of their five-match home Test series against England due to personal reasons.
According to the details, the BCCI stated in a statement that they will fully respect and support Kohli’s decision.
Before the series began, the former captain withdrew from the first two tests, citing personal reasons.
The 35-year-old batsman, who has scored nearly 9,000 runs in 113 Test matches, will miss an entire series at home for the first time in his career.
The third Test is scheduled to begin on Thursday in Rajkot, followed by matches in Ranchi and Dharamsala.
The BCCI has also announced a 17-man squad for the final three Tests. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are included in the squad, despite missing the second match due to injuries. However, their participation is subject to the medical team’s fitness clearance.
Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was left out due to reports of a back problem, while selectors resisted the temptation to rest speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who was injured last year.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj was included in the squad after missing the previous game, and fellow pacer Akash Deep received his first Test call-up.
