On Saturday, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome paid a visit to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif at his residence in Lahore.
US Ambassador and Nawaz Sharif Meeting
The meeting between the two comes a day after senior politicians met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott, who was also joined by the party’s Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz.
It should be noted that since his return to Pakistan after four years in exile ahead of the February 8 general elections, the former three-time prime minister has become the most sought-after leader by senior diplomats stationed in Islamabad.
Meeting With Different Diplomats
Around 60 diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners, are hoping to meet with him and get his take on sensitive and important international issues as well as bilateral issues of mutual interest.
Their desire to meet Nawaz is motivated primarily by the prospect of the politician becoming the country’s next prime minister.
Importance of Pak-US ties
During the meeting with US Ambassador Blome, Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of Pakistan-US relations, recalling his various interactions with American leaders in which both sides had always acknowledged the significance of Pakistan-US ties.
The senior politician also discussed Pakistan’s political and economic situation, particularly in light of his party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
He expressed confidence that the people of Pakistan would once again put their trust in the PML-N to lead the country out of the quagmire that it is currently facing.
