The UAE has issued an updated set of requirements to be followed when taking photographs for identification purposes, in order for smart photo recognition systems to read them.
In accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has developed a set of requirements that a photo must meet in order to be approved by smart readers.
The image must be high quality, coloured, and no more than 6 months old, according to the instructions.
35mm x 40mm are the required dimensions. The background should be white, and neutral expressions should be maintained while avoiding exaggerated facial expressions.
Furthermore, the head position should be parallel to the photographic lens, and the head should not be titled or bent to the side.
The instructions forbid the use of coloured lenses, photo editing, or filters, as well as any type of glasses that obscure the eyes.
Eyeglasses that do not obscure the vision are permitted. Citizens are directed to take photographs in UAE official attire; however, wearing a headscarf or covering the head is optional. The image must have a resolution of at least 600 dpi.
