In a significant development, the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) decided on Thursday to revoke the free Hajj facility for ministers, bureaucrats, Khuddam, and VIPs.
PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan told journalists that the NA body will end the free Hajj facility for government officers and Khuddam.
He added that even the prime minister, ministers, and other political figures cannot perform Hajj for free.
Meanwhile, the PAC requested information from the relevant ministry and the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenues on those who had performed Hajj without spending a single penny of their own money within the previous 15 days (AGPR).
Action will be taken against officers who perform multiple Hajjs on government money, according to orders issued by Inspector General Islamabad Police Dr Akbar Nasir Khan.
The department has compiled a list of such officers who have performed multiple Hajjs while receiving government compensation.
According to police sources, at least 20 officers have been named in the initial stages of the investigation.
One Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) performed eight pilgrimages to Makkah at government expense, and another sub-inspector performed five of them. Close officers from administration offices are also included on the list.
