The current Fiat 500 iteration was released barely a year ago and is on track to set a new record as the Italian compact hatchback has won its 19th international automotive award.
These accolades have come from six different countries, with Belgium’s “Best Car 2021” reigning supreme in the compact electric car category.
The Belgian automotive publication Le Moniteur Automobile polled its readers to choose their favorite vehicles, with the new Fiat 500 taking first place in the small electric car category.
Readers praised the classic model for its contemporary design language as well as the bodywork variants available, which include hatchback, cabrio, and 3+1.
The electrified city car has a real-world driving range of 235 kilometers thanks to its 42-kWh battery. The sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h is around 9 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h. This is made possible by its electric motor, which produces 87 kW (117hp) and 220 Nm.
The Fiat 500 has already received the French Automobile Awards 2020 “Green Car,” Driving Electric’s “Car of the Year and Best Small Electric Car,” Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine’s “Best Design 2020,” and the prestigious international Red Dot Design Awards’ “Best Design Concept.” The number of accolades collected bodes well for the Fiat 500, which is already a huge hit in the European market. The New 500 is also the most popular car in Europe’s city car segment, accounting for 24% of the market.
