Fasset Turns Unicorn Backed by Pakistan Real Estate Tokenization Deal

Pakistan real estate tokenization got a global spotlight on August 24, 2026, when Dubai-based fintech Fasset crossed the $1 billion valuation mark and joined the unicorn club. The company had already signed a landmark deal six months earlier to bring Pakistan’s massive property market onto the blockchain. This is not a distant headline, it has a Pakistani address, a Pakistani co-founder, and a plan that could change how ordinary people invest in property.

What Fasset Actually Does

Fasset is a stablecoin-powered neobank and financial infrastructure company. It gives consumers and businesses tools to hold, transfer, spend, and invest across multiple currencies and assets, with stablecoins forming a core part of the behind-the-scenes settlement layer.

The platform processes more than $40 billion in annualized transaction volume, serving more than 3 million wallets across 125 countries and more than 1,000 enterprises globally.

Founded in 2019 by Mohammad Raafi Hossain and Daniel Ahmed, Fasset secured a license from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority in 2023 and has since expanded into several markets including Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Malaysia, while developing Sharia-compliant financial products spanning stablecoins, gold, equities, and sukuk.

The $68M Series C That Made Fasset a Unicorn

On August 24, 2026, Fasset closed a $68 million Series C led by Japan’s SBI Group at a $1 billion valuation. That single round pushed it into a category that very few Gulf-based fintechs have reached.

The financing was led by SBI Group and follows Fasset’s $51 million Series B earlier this year, which brought Speedinvest onto the cap table alongside a group of strategic investors. After raising its Series B in May, Fasset has now raised a total of $119 million in 2026.

SBI Group is not just any backer. SBI maintains an extensive history in digital assets, having backed companies including Ripple, Circle, and decentralized finance platform Morpho, and also controls cryptocurrency liquidity specialist B2C2. Fasset already collaborates with SBI Remit, which operates a distribution network covering approximately 470,000 payout locations across about 200 nations. That reach could eventually benefit Pakistani workers sending money home from Japan or Gulf countries.

Pakistan Real Estate Tokenization, The Deal That Stands Out

Long before the unicorn headline, Fasset made a move inside Pakistan. In February 2026, Fasset formed a partnership with Habib Rafiq Limited (HRL), a leading infrastructure and real estate development group in Pakistan, with plans to enter the Pakistani market by tokenizing real-world assets, specifically Pakistan’s estimated $1.5 trillion real estate and domestic asset market, to create digital investment pathways.

What does tokenization actually mean here? When a property is tokenized, its value is split into digital tokens on a blockchain. Investors can then buy a fraction of that property the same way they might buy a share of a company. You do not need to pay for an entire flat or plot, you can own a small piece of it digitally. This could open property investment to Pakistanis who never had enough capital to buy real estate outright.

The announcement was made in Islamabad, with Pakistan’s IT minister attending as chief guest, a sign that the government saw this as more than a corporate press release.

This Pakistan real estate tokenization plan is also well-timed. The announcement of Fasset’s unicorn status came days after the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) notified the country’s first Virtual Asset Services Regulations, formally opening the licensing regime for the sector. That means the legal ground for companies like Fasset to operate in Pakistan is now forming. You can read more about how Pakistan’s new crypto rules and PVARA framework are shaping the regulatory environment for virtual assets.

The Pakistani Co-Founder Angle

This story carries extra weight for Pakistan’s tech community. The milestone carries particular resonance in Pakistan because Fasset co-founder Daniel Ahmed was born in Lahore, making Fasset one of the few global fintech unicorns with Pakistani roots at the founder level.

That makes this arguably the first $1 billion startup with a direct Pakistan deal and Pakistani founding roots to hit unicorn status, a first for the local ecosystem. For context on how Pakistan’s startup scene is growing, Pakistan’s total startup funding has crossed $4.77 billion, with early-stage rounds picking up pace.

What the New Funding Will Be Used For

The new funds will support the expansion of Own Network, Fasset’s regulated financial network that connects banks, telcos, payment and liquidity providers to enable settlement across international markets, and will also increase investment in agentic AI systems supporting corridor banking, stablecoin settlement, and tokenized asset infrastructure.

Own Network links local banking systems, payment providers, financial institutions, telecom companies, and settlement networks across 100 banking corridors. As that network grows, Pakistan-linked corridors, especially remittance routes from Gulf countries and Japan, could benefit from faster and cheaper settlement.

What Pakistani Investors and Observers Should Watch

A $1 billion valuation does not automatically mean the Pakistan real estate tokenization plan is already live. The HRL partnership was announced in February 2026, and the tokenization of actual properties takes regulatory clearance, legal structure, and investor onboarding. PVARA’s new licensing rules are a necessary step, but the full framework for tokenized real estate still needs to be worked out between regulators, developers, and platforms like Fasset.

The round highlights continued investor appetite for companies operating at the intersection of fintech and crypto, even as funding conditions remain challenging across parts of the broader startup market. The fact that a major Japanese conglomerate is backing a platform with a declared Pakistan play is a strong signal, but Pakistani users should watch for concrete product launches rather than just partnerships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fasset and where is it based?

Fasset is a Dubai-based fintech that has reached a $1 billion valuation after its latest fundraising round, joining the region’s unicorn ranks. It uses stablecoins to power cross-border payments and also runs a real-world asset tokenization arm.

What is the Pakistan deal Fasset has announced?

In February 2026, Fasset formed a partnership with Habib Rafiq Limited (HRL), a leading infrastructure and real estate development group in Pakistan, planning to enter the Pakistani market by tokenizing real-world assets, specifically Pakistan’s estimated $1.5 trillion real estate and domestic asset market, to create digital investment pathways.

Who is the Pakistani co-founder of Fasset?

Daniel Ahmed, who was born in Lahore, is a co-founder of Fasset alongside CEO Mohammad Raafi Hossain. The two founded Fasset in 2019, and the company has since raised more than $150 million in funding.

How does real estate tokenization work for regular investors?

Tokenization converts a physical property into digital tokens on a blockchain. Each token represents a small ownership share. Investors can buy a fraction of a property without needing the full purchase price. In Pakistan’s context, this could let middle-income earners invest in large real estate projects that would normally be out of their reach financially.
