The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), according to sources, requested that all telecom companies submit their flood-related losses.
As directed by the PTA, all telecom providers have supplied the data of damages they faced. The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has received a report from PTA regarding losses in the telecom industry.
The research states that the recent floods caused losses to the telecom sector of Rs. 17,274.34 million overall. During the flood, Zong and Jazz both suffered losses of Rs. 7,540 million and Rs. 861.3 million, respectively. Ufone suffered damages of Rs. 469.2 million while Wateen telecom lost Rs. 672 million.
The largest telecom company in the nation, PTCL, was confronted with Rs. 2,283. 84 million in losses compared to Telenor’s Rs. 5,448 million in losses.
The loss that the telecom operators experienced affected their access network, optical fiber cable, towers, and other infrastructure.
Standing rainwater from floods has also damaged other equipment at telecom sites, such as generators, routers, and cables.
The telecom sites and networks that were shut down in flood-affected areas cost the telecom providers money.
Over 3,800 telecom sites were reportedly impacted by the floods, but all of the affected sites have since been restored, according to the Ministry of IT and Telecom.
The Ministry has provided the Federal Government with a report on losses. On the basis of this study, the federal government will decide whether to provide compensation or other remedies.
