A funding crisis threatens to close more than 100 technical and vocational training centers in Peshawar.
Closing of 100 technical training centers
Employees at these centers have not been paid in four months, and only Rs. 322 million of the budgeted Rs. 690 million has been disbursed. Thousands of diploma and short-course students in Peshawar have been affected.
This is due to a delay in the provincial government’s release of funds. The government has been made aware of the situation, but no action has been taken thus far.
The closure of these facilities would be devastating to the people of Peshawar. For young people looking for work, the centers provide much-needed vocational education. Additionally, the closure would deprive the economy of a valuable source of skilled workers.
The government is being urged to take immediate action to release the funds required to keep these training facilities operational. Thousands of young people’s futures and Peshawar’s economy are at stake.
Employees of these training centers are not the only ones affected by Peshawar’s financial crisis. It also has serious consequences for education and skill development.
Thousands of students enrolled in these centers are stranded, unable to obtain the education and training required for their future careers.
