The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proclaimed a nationwide public holiday on February 8th, 2024, in preparation for the forthcoming General Elections.
Election Commission announced
the national public holiday today, ensuring that voters have plenty of opportunity to participate in the political process.
Furthermore, prior to this announcement, the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab had taken preemptive measures by extending the holiday period for all educational institutions in the province.
From February 6th to February 9th, all public and private schools, colleges, and institutions in Punjab will be closed.
The extended holiday period is practically a six-day break, with educational institutions off from February 5th to February 9th.
February 5th is Kashmir Day, a public holiday, but February 4th falls on a Sunday, which is typically a day off.
These collaborative efforts by the Election Commission and the Punjab Provincial Cabinet highlight the importance of creating an atmosphere that encourages democratic engagement.
Authorities hope to respect democratic norms and ensure a fair and transparent election by giving citizens the time and resources they need to participate.
As the nation prepares for the General Elections on February 8th, all eyes are on the electorate to appropriately exercise their political rights and contribute to Pakistan’s democratic fabric.
