The federal government said Wednesday that it would resume the Prime Minister’s youth laptop programme.
On Wednesday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Shaza Fatima Khawaja made the announcement alongside Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb during a news conference.
Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif founded the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP) in 2013, and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif began work to restore it after taking office.
She also stated that a loan plan under PMYP was being reintroduced, with loans being made available to more than fifty million adolescents between the ages of fifteen and twenty-nine. Shaza Fatima stated that the youth laptop scheme was also being reintroduced.
“This year, laptops will be distributed amongst one hundred thousand high achievers. There will be a fifty percent share of women, while transgender will also be accommodated,” she said.
The SAPM further stated that the Balochistan quota in this scheme has been quadrupled, and that Prime Minister Shehbaz will shortly introduce this scheme.
It grasped that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has invited bids for the distribution of 100,000 laptops under the Prime Minister’s (PM) Youth Laptop Scheme.
In November, the federal government of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) decided to relaunch its historic laptop scheme, in which it distributed laptop computers to outstanding university students around the country.
HEC recently invited sealed bids from bidders Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) along with a local partner or authorised Laptop distributor/Tier-I partner of OEMs for the procurement of 100,000 laptops under the Prime Minister’s (PM) Youth Laptop Scheme (Phase-Ill) against two POs as detailed in the RFP.
According to the HEC bidding letter, bidders must have been engaged in relevant business operations in Pakistan for the last three calendar years. The bidders must be an approved OEM Laptops Distributor/Tier-I partner, or the OEM itself.
Bidders must be registered with the Income Tax and Sales Tax Departments, as well as on the Federal Board of Revenue’s Active Taxpayers List (FBR).
