According to the media, the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat has released the calendar for the prime ministerial election.
According to details, the newly elected MNAs who took oath on Thursday will vote for the prime ministership on Sunday, March 3.
Prime ministerial election
According to the NA Secretariat’s schedule, premiership candidates can submit candidature papers by 2 p.m. on March 2. “The final list of candidates would be issued after scrutiny of the nomination papers,” the statement said.
NA Secretariat stated
The NA Secretariat stated that candidates can obtain nomination papers from the legislative department. “The candidates are asked to submit their nomination papers to the NA Secretariat,” according to the schedule.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and other allies for the slot. While the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) named Omar Ayub as its candidate for the prime minister’s slot.
Earlier in the day, the 16th National Assembly came into effect with the oath-taking of newly elected MNAs following the February 8 general elections.
Oath Ceremony
The oath to the newly elected MNAs was administered by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. The house which was scheduled to take place at 10 in the morning, started after 11 am.
The NA session began with a commotion as soon as the national song concluded, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed MPs who had joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) encircling the speaker’s podium.
SIC Chairman Sahibzada
Earlier on February 20, SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza declared that his party would elect a prime minister as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (TI)-backed independent lawmakers began joining the Islamic party.
PTI-backed national and provincial assembly legislators have begun filing affidavits, officially proclaiming their affiliation with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in accordance with the party’s policy.
On February 13, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif nominated his younger brother and party president Shehbaz Sharif for the position of prime minister, according to Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb.
Marriyum Aurangzeb took to X (previously Twitter) to announce that PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has been nominated for the position of Punjab Chief Minister.
