According to sources close to the electoral commission, Pakistan’s presidential election is scheduled for March 9. The Pakistani Election Commission is expected to release the schedule for the presidential election today.
Presidential Elections
According to ECP sources, the election of the President will take place prior to the Senate following the establishment of central and provincial governments. The assembly will have a presidential election following the taking of oaths.
According to sources, Asif Ali Zardari would run for president on behalf of the coalition’s allies, which include the People’s Party, PML-N, and others.
According to sources, the nation’s fourteenth president will be chosen on March 9. During their power-sharing discussion, the PPP and PML-N decided that Asif Zardari should be elected as the nation’s chief executive.
The Electoral College
The members of the Senate, National Assembly, and four provincial assemblies make up the electoral college in an indirect presidential election.
The votes of members of the Senate and National Assembly are counted separately in this election.
To ensure that every province has an equal representation in the election, the votes cast by the provincial assembly legislators are modified.
As a result, each provincial assembly has 65 votes, which is equal to the minimum number of members in the Balochistan Assembly. The set number of 65 will determine the weighting of all the members of the other provincial legislatures.
