Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the Interior Minister, stated on Tuesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch the e-passport service on March 30, 2022.
Sheikh Rashid said on Twitter that the new biometric passport will include an electronic chip.
According to the minister, the new passport incorporates 29 new and sophisticated security elements, representing a “significant upgrade since 2004.”
Sheikh Rashid stated that the e-gate facility is available at all international airports worldwide via e-Passport.
“This facility will initially be available for diplomatic and government passports,” he added.
The introduction of the e-passport is a momentous milestone. As a result of this breakthrough, Pakistan would become one of many countries to issue an e-passport with a chip embedded on its data page, as it strives to improve security and ease international travel for its citizens.
What is E-Passport
An e-passport is a highly secure travel document that contains biometric information about the possessor on an integrated microchip.
Using the debut of the service, the country will join the ranks of those with an electronic passport system, enhancing security and facilitating international travel.
E-passports, in conjunction with the created codes, are far more successful than regular passports in combating passport fraud.
E-passports, a modern biometric passport that includes all of the information found in regular passports, are intended to reduce the workload at passport checkpoints.
