Many nations, including India, advised its people to try to reach the borders of Ukraine’s surrounding countries for repatriation shortly after Russian forces launched an offensive on the country. Many Indian citizens who were fleeing to Ukraine’s borders were left to fend for themselves because the Indian government did not provide any financial aid.
It was at this point that Moazam Khan, a Pakistani citizen who works as a tour operator in Ukraine, stepped forward and organized a number of buses that helped transfer over 2,500 Indian citizens to Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania, the most of whom were students.
In this regard, Moazam Khan stated that when he provided safe passage to the first batch of Indian citizens, he had no idea of the magnitude of the crisis.
The first batch of Indian citizens shared his contact information with other Indians detained in Ukraine, who made contact with him right away. He used it to rescue other citizens nonstop from dawn to dusk.
Moazam went on to say that Ukrainian tour operators who provided buses for rescue operations raised ticket prices to $250.
However, he did not do so, and the ticket prices remained between $20 and $25. In many cases, he provided free tickets to Indian citizens who lacked funds.
