Tens of thousands of protestors have rallied across Pakistan, while rallies have also taken place in several countries in favor of Imran Khan, who was removed as Prime Minister in a parliamentary no-trust vote, even as Pakistan’s political opposition prepares to install Khan’s replacement.
On Sunday, Imran Khan supporters marched in towns around the country, holding giant party flags and pledging their support. The crowds were dominated by the youth, who make up the backbone of Khan’s fans.
A big gathering of Imran Khan supporters chanted chants promising Imran Khan’s return to power in sea port city and financial hub Karachi.
“No to imported government” said one placard in Karachi as protestors chanted: “Any friend of America is traitor.”
The lights from thousands of supporters lit up the night sky in Islamabad as Khan made his way through the crowd atop a brightly colored truck.
“In a democratic system the final voice will be the voice of the people. And the voice is the people is Imran Khan,” said Ambareen Turk, a local party activist who joined protesters in Islamabad.
In solidarity with the ousted prime minister, a significant number of demonstrators, including women and children, gathered in Peshawar city.
