Imran Khan allegations about Washington’s complicity in an alleged “international plot” to depose him have been dismissed by the US.
Imran Khan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, has disclosed that Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu sent him a threatening communication via Pakistan’s ambassador, Ambassador Asad Majeed.
“The United States had issued a menacing warning through Pakistan’s envoy,” Dawn claimed, citing Imran Khan.
During his televised remarks, Imran Khan told them that counting (of votes on the motion) had become “irrelevant” after the National Security Council (NSC) criticized the involvement of a foreign force in the no-trust resolution.
He claimed that US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu had threatened Ambassador Asad Majeed in a meeting that if he survived the opposition’s no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, there could be consequences.
The Prime Minister told Dawn that he had received indications that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dissidents frequented the [US] embassy.
“What were the reasons for the people who left us meeting people from the embassy so regularly in the last several days?” he asked.
Following the opposition’s rising confidence in the no-trust vote against his administration, Imran Khan made a “foreign plot” claim in a national address last week.
In this context, Imran Khan said the “United States” before quickly switching to “other country.”
“The US sent us a message on March 8 or earlier on March 7…not the US, but a foreign country. The reason I’m bringing this up is because receiving such a message in an independent country is a direct attack on myself and the country “He’d stated.
Imran Khan is Pakistan’s third Prime Minister to face a no-confidence vote.
However, the no-trust resolution against the PTI administration was dismissed by Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on Sunday, citing a violation of Article 5 of the country’s Constitution.
Furthermore, on Imran Khan’s request, Pakistan President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly.
