Liaquat University Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Shahid Islam Junejo has proclaimed that the hospital’s Department of Cardiac medicine is staffed by highly trained professionals using cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
Dr. Shahid told representatives of a social organisation working in the health sector who visited the cardiology department that treatment for patients with heart disease begins immediately upon arrival, with an electrocardiogram (ECG) and other laboratory tests.
When a patient’s condition is no longer life-threatening, they are moved from the emergency room to the cardiac care unit or heart ward (the emergency room has a capacity of 22 patients) and given an echo on the same bed.
The hospital offers remarkable cardiac facilities
According to Dr. Shahid Islam, a foreign-trained cardiologist named Dr. Muhammad Kashif Shaikh oversees the 24-hour cardiology services at the hospital, and angiography and angioplasty operations are performed around the clock if necessary. The male general ward has 12 beds and the female general ward has 12 beds, he said; the cardiac care units each have 22 beds; and the psychiatric unit has 12 beds.
Dr. Ezra Fazal Pechuho, MS, provincial health minister, has credited the government of Sindh and his own department for making this achievement possible.
