Despite the demands of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman, Noor Alam Khan, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) refused to reveal the assets of its officers. The asset disclosure information was to be provided by NAB personnel, and the NAB Chairman was to update the committee at the following meeting, according to instructions given by the committee chairman at the previous meeting.
Noor Alam slammed the NAB for not knowing the law in response to the letter written to the PAC that questioned the committee’s authority. He said that despite several letters challenging the Committee’s authority, the PAC is legally permitted to request information on any topic, including asset declarations.
NAB was informed of the authority of each legislative committee, including the PAC, according to Chairman PAC.
The committee was also briefed by NAB Chairman Zahir Shah on a Rs. 16 billion plea agreement with a private housing organization.
According to Zahir, NAB received 11,800 complaints and 13 billion rupees’ worth of claims. He said that the defendant, Dr. Amjad, had left the country and died upon his return. Amjad’s wife petitioned the High Court, which resulted in a plea agreement.
According to Chairman NAB, the accused’s property is worth 25 billion rupees, and a plea deal for 13 billion rupees was reached. According to Noor Alam, the NAB board approved the plea agreement, and the money would be paid back over the course of three years in installment.
