The Israeli company NSO Group granted the US government access to one of its most potent mobile weapons under the secret contract that was finalised on November 8, 2021, according to The New York Times (NYT) on Sunday. The geolocation tool can covertly track mobile phones around the world without the phone user’s knowledge or consent.
The contract permits the US government to make use of Landmark, a geolocation hacking tool developed by NSO Group. Officials from the US government have access to a unique NSO portal that enables them to enter mobile phone numbers to precisely locate the position of the phone without the user’s knowledge or agreement.
US has already accessed mobile phones location in Mexico
According to the paper, two insiders claimed that the US carried out thousands of inquiries on mobile phone users in at least one nation, Mexico, as part of the deal.
The Israeli NSO Group was declared a national security threat and given the message that US corporations should avoid doing business with it by the Biden administration only five days before the contract was inked, on Nov. 3, 2021, according to the authors.
