The world banks seized nearly all Russian bank accounts & international funding sources/companies. The “Microsoft” also takes the severe actions against Russian hacker groups. Microsoft had successfully seized domains used by APT28. The latter is a subvert-group operated by Russian military intelligence named GRU.
At the moment, it targets institutions in Ukraine, Strontium (Microsoft nicknamed for APT28 or “Fancy Bear”) used multiple domains to target multiple Ukrainian institutions. Among them, we can include media organizations, government institutions, etc. Almost all those organizations and institutions that had been involved in foreign policy in the U.S. and Europe automatically became the prey of APT28.
The Microsoft’s Vice President for customer security, Tom Burt stated: “We believe Strontium was attempting to establish long-term way-in to the systems of its targets, provide tactical support for the physical invasion and exfiltration of the sensitive information.”
The Microsoft achieved a court order on April 6, the latter allowed the company to take control of seven domains of the ATP28. It was using to perform its cyberattacks. “We have since re-directed these domains to a sinkhole controlled by Microsoft, enabling us to mitigate Strontium’s current use of these domains and enable victim notifications,” Burt further added. “We have notified Ukraine’s government about the activity we detected and actions we are taking”.
