3D renders of the rumoured Sony WH-1000XM5 ANC headphones emerged in April, giving us our first look at the Japanese electronics giant’s follow-up to the 1000XM4 from 2020.
Now, photographs of the headphones’ packaging have surfaced online, confirming their look.
The front, top, and back of the 1000XM5 headphones’ box were photographed for the first time on Reddit.
More importantly, the recycled paper wrapper on the top of the box debunks the initial rumour that the headphones’ battery life would be increased to 50 hours; the headphones’ battery life will be 30 hours, which is 10 hours less than the 1000XM4’s 40 hours.
However, there is conjecture online that the 1000XM5’s overall battery life might possibly be increased closer to 40 hours mark, merely by switching over to a more power-efficient audio codec.
At the time of writing, there is no indication on when the WH-1000XM5 will be released, and Sony has likewise been silent on the matter.
Given the frequency of the leaks, as well as the fact that the WH-1000XM4 released around this time in 2020, it’s reasonable to conclude that the launch is soon and simply a matter of time.
