Sony has revised its PlayStation plus FAQ page (found at the foot of this page) and is closing loopholes that allowed users to get early access to its impending PlayStation plus Premium service.
It’s also delaying the activation of PlayStation Plus and Now vouchers for current customers until June, and there’s even an official conversion chart detailing the value of those vouchers for PlayStation plus Essentials, Extra, and Premium, the company’s forthcoming three offerings.
After Sony announced its plan to restructure PlayStation Plus into a new three-tiered service to compete with Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s services, there was some confusion about how the transition to the new tiers would work.
Users began stacking prepaid subscriptions to PlayStation Now, Sony’s cloud streaming service available on consoles and PC, in the hopes that the $59.99 per year service would convert to the upcoming $119.99 per year PlayStation plus Premium.
Sony was quick to stop many people from taking advantage of the discount, but it couldn’t stop people from purchasing and redeeming the cards for some sort of service, and the remaining PS Now voucher cards will give you at least a partial PlayStation plus Premium subscription.
At the very least, they will begin in June. Sony is now preventing many people from redeeming prepaid vouchers until after the relaunch of PS Plus. Only users who have not previously subscribed can redeem a one-, three or twelve-month prepaid card, which is still available at many stores (including directly from Sony).
