Through a new agreement with an e-commerce technology startup, Meta Platforms Inc. will make it easier for marketers to run 3D ads on Facebook and Instagram.
According to a press release issued by VNTANA on Thursday, the connection would allow marketers to submit 3D models of their items to social media platforms and instantly transform them into commercials.
According to VNTANA Chief Executive Ashley Crowder, the move is a stepping stone towards advertising in the metaverse, which is a future concept of a collection of virtual worlds that can be accessed through various devices such as headsets.
Meta has bet its future on its ability to contribute to the creation of the metaverse, which it estimates will take up to a decade to complete.
Meanwhile, companies in the beauty, fashion, and furnishing industries are attempting to shift their items from 2D to 3D representations.
Crowder described the metaverse as “essentially the spatial internet.” “Having the correct 3D models of your items opens up a new universe of possibilities.”
Users who encounter a 3D ad while surfing on their laptop or phone on Facebook or Instagram may interact with a picture of a handbag, for example, and move the item around to examine it from all angles.
