After 17 years since the last curriculum was notified in 2006, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Education Pakistan released a notification on approval of the National Curriculum of Pakistan.
All stakeholders were consulted during the process of creating the 9–12th grade curriculum. In 2024, students in grades 9–11 will begin using the new curriculum, and in 2025, those in grades 10–12 will do the same.
Curriculum for Matric and Inter is critically designed
All phases of Matric and Inter curriculum development were inclusive of relevant stakeholders. Policymakers, academics, practitioners, parents, and students from all around Pakistan participated in an extensive consultation process.
There were numerous curriculum workshops and policy dialogues held across Pakistan to gather input for this aim. In addition, everyone involved was given the opportunity to provide input through a website.
Experts from each province were invited to attend regional curriculum workshops before a final Matric and Inter curriculum workshop was convened at the NCC Secretariat in Islamabad.
Nine topics, including Urdu, English, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science, were approved by Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
Several meetings of the relevant parties were held to guarantee the curriculum was really used. The curriculum for the institutions under the Federal Ministries and the Islamabad Capital Territory has been notified after extensive debate.
An action plan for carrying out the notification’s contents has also been released. The curriculum will be reviewed by the provinces and updated accordingly whenever they are notified.
