The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) set a $5,000 cash-carrying restriction for international travel on Tuesday.
To enact the changes made to the Baggage Rules, 2006, the FBR issued SRO 2201(I)/ 2022 on December 12, 2022.
Previously, SRO 2043(I)/2022 was used to introduce draft changes to the rules on November 15, 2022.
The most recent announcement states that anyone traveling overseas (apart from Afghanistan) is permitted to carry out US dollars from Pakistan or the equivalent in other foreign currencies up to the following limits:
The yearly limit per person in US dollars (or similar in other foreign currencies) is $30,000 for those who are 18 years of age and older. The maximum limit per person per visit in US dollars (or equivalent in other foreign currencies) is $5,000.
The yearly limit per person in US dollars (or equivalent in other foreign currencies) is $15,000, and the maximum limit per person per visit in US dollars (or similar in other foreign currencies) is $2,500 for those under the age of 18.
The yearly limit per person (US dollars or similar in other foreign currencies) for passengers traveling to Afghanistan is $6,000 and the maximum limit per person per visit (US dollars or equivalent in other foreign currencies) is $1,000.
According to the FBR, the yearly outward passenger cap for each of the aforementioned nations will be in effect starting in 2023.
However, the current annual restrictions in effect prior to the publication of this notification will remain in force through December 31, 2022, for the calendar year 2022.
According to the FBR, anyone taking foreign cash or any other item that is illegal or restricted out of Pakistan must file a declaration either before or at the time of departure, either manually at the airport or electronically in the WeBOC or pass track.
The incoming passenger must also file a declaration if they are in possession of foreign money worth more than $10,000 or its equivalent, any other restricted items, or both, in accordance with the 2006 Baggage Rules Amendments.
