At the 21st convocation of Government College University on Friday, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Asghar Zaidi presented three GCU alumni with renowned lifetime achievement awards.
Chaudhry Akhtar Rasool was honored for his achievements to the sport of hockey; Usman Peerzada was recognized for his work in acting and theatre; and Mian Misbahur Rehman was honoured for his services to the field of philanthropy.
The two-day convocation began on Friday, with 10 illustrious alumni receiving lifetime achievement awards and 1,984 students receiving their degrees. There are a total of 1265 Bachelor’s degrees and 667 Master’s degrees awarded.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Asghar Zaidi presided over the inaugural session of the convocation, during which degrees and medals were presented to the graduates by Federal Minister for Education Rana Tanveer Hussain.
The minister has announced a grant of Rs. 100 million for the university, to be used principally for the construction of a building on the Kala Shah Kaku campus and the replication of the clock tower.

The minister stressed in his address that the focus should be on improving the quality of education rather than expanding the number of universities. He alluded to the possibility of tying federal funding for institutions to how well they perform.
Prof. Zaidi has announced the start of projects with a combined value of Rs. 580 million to enhance student services on campus in honor of the university’s 20th anniversary.
He also promised that this year will see the completion of a new ladies’ hostel, swimming pool, and big mosque in the educational institute.
At the 13th convocation of the University of Lahore, 10,227 students received degrees (UoL).
UoL BoG Chairman Awais Raoof and Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman both attended the ceremony and presented awards and diplomas to the graduates.
The governor presented degrees to 10,227 students from 11 different departments, including doctors (78), masters (608), doctors of philosophy (2,887), and bachelors (6654). Gold medals were awarded to 275 pupils (out of 708), silver to 235, and bronze to 198.
