In preparation for the 2023 general election, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has created a new election management system (EMS). The ECP asserts that the new system would improve its capacity to hold inclusive, free, fair, and transparent elections.
The EMS is a crucial step in Pakistan’s electoral system’s modernization. For IT personnel, the Project Management Unit, and the Election Wing of the ECP, a two-day training event was held to increase awareness and comprehension of the system.
Officials who attended the workshop now have the skills necessary to use the EMS efficiently for secure elections.
ECP Extended Voter Registration Deadline
Additionally, the ECP has extended until July 20th the deadlines for voter registration, data rectification, exclusion, and transfer. People will find it simpler to update their voter information and register to vote as a result of this.
By texting their identity card number to 8300, members of the public can learn more about their vote. Forms for registration, transfer, objection/exclusion, and data correction are available online or in the District Election Commissioner’s office.
The election lists made public on May 31 show that Pakistan has 125,963,598 electors who are officially registered to vote. The percentage of women who are registered to vote, however, has slightly declined, widening the gender divide.
At 71,606,379, Punjab has the most registered voters, followed by Sindh with 26,488,841 voters. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have 5,260,247 and 21,582,556 registered voters, respectively. There are 1,025,575 registered voters in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
The introduction of the new EMS is a positive move that will contribute to the free, transparent, inclusive, and fair conduct of the forthcoming general election.
The ECP has made a number of efforts to improve voter registration and increase system awareness. The ECP is in a strong position to conduct an election successfully now that the new system is in place.
