On Thursday, all faculties, administration, and other staff at COMSATS University’s Abbottabad campus declared an indefinite strike after boycotting classes to protest alleged immoral activities on campus, including an incident that resulted in the residence of a foreigner.
Following the protest, the employees decided to keep the strike going in order to emphasize the importance of an impartial investigation into who was responsible for the incident at the Foreign Faculty Residence, a multi-story boarding house within the COMSATS facility with 12 apartments and 24 rooms.
This building turned out to be owned by the campus director, who had lived there in place of the director’s house since joining the campus.
Faculty members and university administrators told this correspondent that Tahir Ali Shah, the director of the Higher Education Commission, had stayed at the guest house for a few days with a woman he pretended to be his wife.
Faculty members reported feeling empowered as a result of an inappropriate campus environment that was unacceptable to them and residents.
They claimed that the students felt unsafe in this setting. Faculty members claimed that after reporting these incidents, the school’s prosecutors were disbanded. The staff requested that a fully protected habitat be provided for the students and team. It was the lack of a strike history at the COMSATS Abbottabad Campus.
However, panic gripped students, parents, and teachers, who urged the government to investigate and take appropriate action. To prevent unwelcome incidents, police officers were stationed at the university.
According to Sardar Naseer Ahmed, media manager of Abbottabad University’s COMSATS campus, senior faculty members have formed an inquiry committee.
