Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz agreed to build new women’s prisons in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.
The decision happened after a meeting led by CM Maryam Nawaz to talk about changing jails.
The meeting was on Wednesday. Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information Minister Azma Bukhari, and other top people came.
The Chief Minister asked for detailed reports on jail changes. She also said to make the new women’s jails soon.
Maryam Nawaz said the new jails should be outside the city for better safety and running.
She was worried that people in jail could still talk to people outside. She said the jails need strong online safety.
“I want to make sure prisoners, especially women, are safe and get help,” Maryam Nawaz said. She said the new jails will meet women’s needs.
Maryam Nawaz also said to work to fix Bakshi Khanas and lock-ups.
She okayed plans to make these places better for inmates.
In another meeting, Aun Chaudhary from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) met CM Maryam Nawaz.
They talked about building things and politics in Lahore. Chaudhary liked the Chief Minister’s interest in Lahore’s growth.
Maryam Nawaz Faces Backlash for Wearing Police Uniform
Maryam Nawaz, who leads Punjab, caused trouble by wearing a police uniform at a special event.
People and the news did not like her choice of clothing.
Maryam said she supported the police, but many people thought it was wrong for a leader to wear a police uniform.
Even though Maryam said she wore the uniform to show she was united with the police, most people still thought it was not right.
Maryam Nawaz went to the event in Lahore with other leaders and Punjab IGP Usman Anwar.
She talked to the new police officers about how important their uniform was to the country.
Then, she gave out trophies to the police officers, which made the issue even more controversial.
