An S&T cooperation center was established in a webinar held on Monday in Beijing, marking a significant step in the expansion of bilateral cooperation in science and technology (S&T).
The Zhongguancun Belt and Road Industrial Promotion Association (ZBRA) and Pakistan’s Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA) founded the S&T center.
During the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, information technology became a significant area of cooperation between China and Pakistan, according to Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Moinul Haque, as evidenced by the formation of the S&T joint working group under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The S&T center, the ambassador continued, would represent a significant step toward improved bilateral cooperation.
In his speech, ZBRA President Zhang Xiaodong mentioned that “taking the center as a platform, we will mobilize all parties in China and Pakistan, especially hi-tech enterprises and institutions, to develop and gather resources for science and technology cooperation”.
He continued by saying that a delegation of Chinese S&T companies would be organized for a trip to Pakistan the following year for a comprehensive field examination.
An STZA representative described the S&T center as a “liaison office for Chinese enterprises,” noting that in addition to fostering innovation, human-to-human, and student-to-student channels of collaboration, the center will also develop a business-to-business platform for technology transfer, collaboration, and international investments.
It has been learned that the center will prioritize collaboration in the industries of biotechnology, financial technology, blockchain, big data, cloud computing, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
