Google Maps has quickly become the most used navigation app on the planet. It has hundreds of millions of monthly users, and the fact that it has been directing individuals on potentially life-threatening unsafe routes is concerning.
Google Maps is promoting unsafe routes in California, according to Twitter user @pyrogeog. During a heavy snowfall, the recommended route between Sacramento, California, and Reno, Nevada, was evidently a poorly maintained forest road, but Google Maps had no warnings.
For that, a Twitter user dubbed Google Maps an abysmal failure.
Five to nine feet of snow has fallen in the area during the previous week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), and the situation is not anticipated to improve anytime soon.
Thankfully, there were no confirmed reports of accidents in that region, but the way Google recommends these routes is still very disturbing.
Another Twitter user expressed concern that the Android version of Google Maps does not adequately report road closures.
Needless to add, technological advancements are not infallible methods of transport or navigation in adverse weather. In such instances, it is advisable to consult multiple sources.
