Four significant telecom companies have been hit with Rs. 29 million fines by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for failing to comply with the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements specified in their licences.
Following the imposition of a fine on the mobile carriers, PTA also gave them instructions to raise the calibre of their services and ensure that they adhere to the requirements outlined in their licences and regulations.
There have also been warnings that refusal to comply could result in legal action.
PTA performed a survey in more than five cities, including Sialkot, D.I. Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Mardan, and Mastung, in order to track the performance. Then, the data collected from these cities were compared to a benchmark.
Four telecom companies—Jazz, Telenor, Zong, and Ufone—were determined to be in violation of the established QoS criteria after a thorough comparison with the benchmarks.
All four of these Telcos have a copy of the analysis, and they are now compelled to explain why they did not comply with QoS.
Jazz is given a fine of Rs. 7 million for having poor quality of service in Sialkot, D.I. Khan, and Tando Allah Yar out of a total fine of Rs. 29 million.
In Sialkot, D.I. Khan, and Tando Allah Yar, Telenor was fined Rs. 6 million for failing to comply with the Quality of Service requirements, while another Rs. 6 million was assessed in Mardan and Mastung.
For failing to meet QoS in Sialkot, D.I. Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Mardan, and Mastung, Ufone has assessed a Rs. 5 million fine.
In addition, Zong is fined Rs. 5 million for failing to maintain QoS in Mardan and Mastung.
