The SU7 electric sedan, which is Xiaomi’s first car, was first shown to the European public today, having made its debut in China in December 2023.
Mobile World Congress 2024
Remarkably, the Xiaomi SU7 made its European debut not at the current Geneva Motor Show but rather at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, one of the biggest tech gatherings of the year, where Xiaomi feels far more at home as a smartphone and tech giant.
The presentation was accompanied on Weibo by a post by Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, which featured a picture of the SU7 in Gulf Blue from the MWC along with the statement, “Xiaomi SU7 has been launched at the MWC.” Is it cool? Afterwards, in an interview with CNBC, he stated:
“We think it’s a good starting point for us in the premium segment because we already have 20 million premium users in China based on the smartphone.”
Weibing stated in the interview that he thinks the market for electric vehicles will resemble the smartphone market of today in ten years.
With the top five brands holding roughly 70% of the market share. Remember that there are presently about 100 EV manufacturers in China.
The Xiaomi SU7 Max model, which has 664 horsepower (495 kW) and all-wheel drive, is on display at the MWC. The EV is equipped with an 800V architecture and a 101 kWh battery pack.
The SU7 Max has an amazing 800 km of CLTC range, and it takes 2.78 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h.
Weibing claims that Xiaomi plans to begin shipping the SU7 in large quantities during this year’s second quarter.
Although official pricing information is still pending, unofficial sources indicate that the price will probably range between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan ($28,000 to $42,000).
