In the first three months of 2024, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8%, totaling 289.4 million units, compared to the same period last year.
According to a report from market research firm IDC, the smartphone market has grown for the third consecutive quarter, indicating a recovery after a difficult period.
Top 5 Smartphone Brands
This quarter’s top five smartphone brands were Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Transsion, and Oppo. Samsung led the market with a 20.8% share, followed by Apple at 17.3%. Xiaomi held a 14.1% stake, while Transsion and Oppo had 9.9% and 8.7%, respectively.
Xiaomi saw a significant increase in shipments, with 40.8 million units shipped, up 33.8% from the previous year. Transsion also experienced a significant surge, shipping 28.5 million units, up 84.9% from the previous year.
Oppo, on the other hand, saw a decrease in shipments, shipping only 25.2 million units. This represents an 8.5% decrease from the same period last year.
Despite Oppo’s decline, overall market growth indicates that the smartphone industry is on the verge of recovery.
