Voice messages, alerts, and profile images have all received a fresh update from WhatsApp. The update will initially be available to iPhone users running iOS 15 and subsequently to Android users.
For everyone, WhatsApp version 22.2.75 for iOS will improve voice messages. Instead of the single “stop recording” square button, the update will add the ability to pause a voice message while recording it, as well as a play/resume toggle. This function has been in testing since October of last year, and it is now available on iPhones all across the world.
Focus Mode will be properly supported by WhatsApp for the first time. On iPhones, Focus Mode allows you to disable alerts from specific apps, but with the new WhatsApp update, certain users will still be able to message you while Focus Mode is on.
Last but not least, your contacts’ profile photos will be included in message alerts. This has been available on Android for a while, but with version 22.2.75, iPhone users may finally receive it.
Meta intends to expand WhatsApp’s capabilities in the future, including message reactions similar to those found in Skype, Discord, Instagram, and other platforms.
These capabilities will be available in the coming weeks, but iPhone users will need to update to the most recent iOS version to receive them.
