Last Friday, Fossil announced a Wellness Edition of its Gen 6 smartwatch with Wear OS 3 out of the box. All other Fossil Gen 6 devices are getting an update today.
The new package includes improved health and fitness tracking, an improved interface, and a connection between the Fossil wearable and the Fossil app.
Today’s update arrives just in time, fulfilling Fossil’s promise that Gen 6 watches will transition to Wear OS 3. The wearable’s screen now has improved readability thanks to elements from Google’s Material You design.
Pressing the top button brings up a list of all recently used apps, while pressing and holding brings up the voice assistant. The Quick Settings Shade has been updated as well, with more options and a new look, as well as a toggle between battery modes – Daily and Extended.
The Fossil app was already available, but for some reason, the company has only allowed Gen 6 devices to connect with the Wear OS app thus far.
Now that this has changed, all customizations can be made in the native app, and support for the Google app remains – the user can choose which app should be the default.
With the release of the Montblanc Summit 3, Samsung’s exclusivity over the Wear OS 3 platform came to an end. However, at $1,290, the watch is unlikely to find many buyers.
Fossil, which makes a variety of Wear OS smartwatches, has just announced its first Wear OS 3 wearable: the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition. More importantly, the company confirmed that starting October 17, it will update its existing Gen 6 watches to Wear OS 3.
