An additional fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs3.33 per unit.
For electricity consumption in May was notified by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Friday.
According to an order issued by the regulator, Nepra “reviewed and assessed a National Average Uniform increase of Rs3.3287/kWh in the applicable tariff for XWDISCOs. On account of variations in the fuel charges for the month of May 2024”.
All consumer categories will be affected by the “adjustment of Rs3.3287/kWh.
With the exception of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCs) and lifeline consumers.”
Nepra’s statement, “the said adjustment shall be shown separately in the consumers’ bills” based on units invoiced in May 2024, and it will appear in the billing month of July 2024.
K-Electric Customers
In the meantime, K-Electric customers received notification. From the regulatory body of a Rs1.67 unit pricing cut due to fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for April 2024.
“The authority after discussing and incorporating adjustments decided.
To allow the negative FCA for the month of April 2024, to be passed on to consumers in their monthly bills of July 2024”.
“All consumer categories, with the exception of lifeline consumers, domestic consumers consuming up to 300 units, EV charging stations, and agriculture consumers of K-Electric, shall be subject to the negative adjustment.”
It further said that, regardless of consumption level. Domestic customers using Time of Use (ToU) metres are likewise subject to negative monthly FCA.
“The adjustment shall be shown separately in the consumers’ bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the month of April 2024”, it concluded.
The basic power cost through circulation was approved by the federal cabinet one day earlier, with an increase of Rs5.72 per unit.
Decision was issued by NEPRA for the fiscal year 2024–2025, and it will go into effect on July 1, 2024. It was decided to increase the average basic power cost from Rs 29.78 to Rs 35.50 per unit.

9 Distribution Businesses
Nine distribution businesses, including K-Electric. Failed to obtain a 100 percent recovery, according to the NEPRA’s progress report on the electricity distribution companies.
The national kitty lost Rs403 billion as a result of the line losses and poor recoveries, the report stated.
The study made clear that the businesses did not purchase electricity in accordance with their allotted quota.
