As part of the Tips payment feature, Twitter announced on Wednesday that users can now add their Ethereum wallet addresses to their profiles.
Tips enable users to add public-facing payment methods to their accounts, allowing them to send tips or payments to other platform users.
Previously, traditional payment apps like Cash App, as well as less traditional Bitcoin wallet addresses like Tips, were available on Twitter.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is widely regarded as a Bitcoin Maximalist – those who believe Bitcoin is the only digital asset that will be required in the future. Dorsey has been dismissive of many other cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, for quite some time.
Dorsey is well-known for saying at the Miami Bitcoin conference in 2021, “All of the other coins, for me, do not factor in at all.”
In November, he resigned as CEO of Twitter. A Twitter spokesperson denied that Dorsey’s recent departure had anything to do with the company’s decision to add Ethereum to its platform.
Twitter has been slowly warming up to Ethereum. Twitter distributed NFTs minted on the Ethereum blockchain in June 2021.
In January, Twitter announced that users could link NFTs to their profile pictures as long as they were on the Ethereum blockchain.
